Tongs for Tossers - They’re Campfire Tongs, why would you call them that, you ask?

We’re a family that loves camping. Ever since our first child was just 18 months old, we’ve been out there soaking up the magnificent sights, sounds and experiences the great outdoors has to offer.

As they say, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. Great ideas come from the need to do things better, to make life easier, more enjoyable… and as a bit of a tinkerer, I knew there had to be a better and safer way to toss another log on the fire.

We’ve all been there, using those long kitchen tongs to try and add wood to a campfire. They work… sort of.

They’re fine for little bits of firewood, but that’s about it. After a couple of trips they’re bent, burnt or broken and straight in the bin. There had to be something better, but after a good look around, nothing fit the bill.

This was over 25 years ago. The internet was still pretty new to us Gen X’ers and there wasn’t much around back then!

So somewhere between the campfire yarns, laughter, banter and constantly tossing logs on the fire, an idea was born: a proper pair of tongs made for the campfire, not the BBQ.

We needed something tough enough to handle big logs and split firewood, with strong teeth for a solid grip. Tongs that could handle the heat, the weight and years of use…

And just like that, the first Tongs for Tossers were born.

Now, where did that crazy name come from?

We’ve got a very dear friend, Cherrie, a true Aussie country girl from Gulargambone in NSW. And as we all know, when you’re sitting around a campfire with a few bevvies under your belt, there’s usually plenty of banter flying around.

One night, as I reached for the Campfire Tongs to toss another log on the fire, Cherrie yelled out: “Look! Tongs for Tossers!”

Well, we all fell over laughing, and the name stuck, from then on, they were known to all our camping mates as Tongs for Tossers.

Originally, I made just six sets. And I know for a fact that every one of those original sets of Tongs for Tossers is still out there being used at campsites around Australia, over 25 years later.

After years of tinkering, testing and perfecting, we finally brought Tongs for Tossers to life for everyone to enjoy. Made from heavy-duty 1.2mm Bluescope Zincanneal or 1.2mm 304 Stainless Steel, they’re built to last, the kind of camping gear you buy once and use for a lifetime.

Whether you’re out bush, tossing another log on the firepit in your backyard at home or cranking up the loungeroom fireplace on a wet chilly night, our tongs are built to make life around the flames easier, safer, and a whole lot more fun.
